The Lemur leaf frog (Hylomantis lemur) Is a critically endangered frog native to Panama, Colombia, and Costa Rica. This amazing frog changes colors depending on whether its active or inactive. When resting during the day, it is mostly bright green with brown speckled dots (as pictured above). Its appendages and flanks are bright yellow and its underbelly beams white. At nighttime, when they are active, their belly turns brown. The vertical pupils are a good indication of nocturnal behavior.
Along with many other threatened amphibian species of central and south America, population declines of this species can be attributed to the two major drivers of global amphibian decline: habitat loss and Chytridiomycosis (Bd).
